Because you are a Captain and adventurer and like doing your own thing. You already know how to fish and you don't need someone baiting your hook for you, like most Alaskans.
A Self Guided U Fish Boat is clearly much less expensive than a charter boat and without the crowds and restrictions.

Special Requests
If there is something you need for your trip, please ask and we will do our best to accommodate you!
Homer Alaska is only 4hr 11min drive south of Anchorage on Highway 1 (the end of the road). The drive is one of the most beautiful drives you will ever take. If you are short of time there are daily flights (45m) on Ravn Alaska Airlines.
Halibut Fishing
Halibut fishing here is world renowned. You can keep two halibut each on a U Fish rental boat, no size limit. On a charter boat you can keep two fish, however, the second fish can be no longer than 28" which is only 9 lbs. of take home fish.
Four fishermen on a rental boat equals less people and more fish weight. If that second halibut were 36 lbs., that is 27 more lbs. of fish for each fisherman (an estimated 108 lbs. more fish in your coolers). Halibut costs as much as $30.00+ per lb. That potentially is an additional value of $3,240+ that you could enjoy with a unguided DIY U Fish Boat Rental.
Salmon Fishing
There are five species of salmon in Kachemak Bay (Kings, Silver, Sockeye, Pink, and Chum) during different times through the summer months. You can fish by trolling with downriggers or divers, flashers, spoons, and of course herring bait. Each salmon has its own daily limit & possession limit. Silvers can be caught from July to September and are the best fighting fish in Alaska.
Rock Fish & Lingcod
Know your rock fish, and limits, there will be a picture identification chart on board and a required deep water release.
Fishing Limits
We recommend that you review the Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations and updates, limits, areas, and fishing seasons. Renters are responsible to have proper fishing licenses if fishing.

Things To Bring
Over 40 years of fishing experience starting in Alaska in 1972, ranging from commercial crab fishing in the Gulf, commercial salmon fishing in Kodiak, back country trips through out the state, from the foothills of the Brooks Range to Cold Bay, Bristol Bay, Katmai, and many trips in the Cook inlet/Kachemak Bay. I have always have a great time and always catch lots of fish. Trust me, this is the type of trip you will remember.

We pride ourselves on providing you a clean boat. It is our goal to make sure it is completely wiped down including fishing gear with anti-bacterial cleaners.
There are several fish processors in the Homer and Anchor Point, and Ninilchik area that we can refer you to. They will cut, wrap, and freeze your fish. You can have them ship it home or pack frozen coolers to check in with your luggage on your return flight.
21' Thunder Jet Luxor OS/OB seats 6 for sight seeing and Whale Watching; however, only 4 adults can fish safely.
There is nothing like being on the water, fishing away from the crowds.
The boat is fast, stable and performs very well.
